AELA Education
During 2012 AELA is conducting a number of courses/events which members may find useful for staff training purposes.
The Equpment Finance Credit Skills course will be held in March in Sydney (19 & 20 March ) and Melbourne (21 March); this is a one-day course focusing on credit risk assessment of equipment finance opportunities derived from real situations.
The Equipment Finance MasterClass is scheduled to be held twice in Sydney - 16 & 17 August and 20 & 21 August and Melbourne on 23-34 August. This two day course is presented by Sudhir Amembal, and is based on the long running Winning with Leasing course but broadened to encompass hire purchase and chattel mortgage.
A half day session on Understanding the Financial Computations of Equipment Finance will be held on 15 August in Sydney.
The AELA Annual Leasing and Equipment Finance Conference is on 28 November, with international speakers providing insights on latest developments in the US and UK/European equipment finance markets, and covering local market and regulatory developments. Seminars on specific topics (such as PPS) will be advised during the year.

Equipment Finance Credit Skills Course
One-Day Course

The program is a practical, one-day course designed to enhance credit skills so that equipment finance personnel are better able to cope with risk in a competitive market. The program focuses on credit risk assessment of commercial and small business equipment finance opportunities, which are derived from real situations.
The case studies are designed to:
- enable participants to become more skilled in the art and science of credit management through diagnosing problems, analysing and evaluating businesses, and formulating workable financing proposals
- provide exposure to a range of industries and equipment finance-related situations, creating a background of experience
- maximise the number of sound credit approvals, minimise the number of questionable credit proposals.
The Credit Risk program is designed around a core lending decision process and all participants receive a copy of an 80-page lending decision strategy manual, ‘The Cornerstone of Good Credit’.

Understanding the Financial Computations of Equipment Finance

The objective of this workshop is to enable attendees to gain a firm understanding of the financial concepts and applications that are the foundation of the world of equipment finance. The concepts of Present Value (PV) and Internal Rate of Return (IRR) and associated variants are the focus, as they underpin the day to day real world applications of pricing, structuring, accounting, and finance vs purchase analysis This half-day hands on workshop will fully acquaint attendees with these building blocks of equipment finance.

This practical two-day course has been most successful since first offered by AELA in 1988, with over a thousand Australian equipment finance professionals having attended. The program has been broadened to encompass hire-purchase and chattel mortgage, in addition to leasing. It will provide attendees with a broad overview of the Australian and global equipment finance industry through an examination of the financial, economic, tax and accounting perspectives. This course will provide attendees with an in-depth understanding of the world of equipment finance; it will be useful for staff at all levels, with a focus on enabling the business to grow volume (and profit).
